Why local matters
Dover town is a working port squeezed between the Western Heights and the Castle. The housing stock is layered: Georgian and early-Victorian terraces down by the seafront, mid-Victorian workers' terraces up Folkestone Road and Barton Road, late-Victorian and Edwardian villas in Maxton and Buckland, big post-war expansion at Whitfield and Aycliffe, and modern coastal builds around Marine Court and Waterloo Crescent. That runs the wiring story: mostly rubber-and-lead in the old cores that was overpatched in the 1970s, TN-S incoming supplies more often than TN-C-S in the port core, and heavy corrosion exposure everywhere with a view of the Channel.
The DNO is UK Power Networks Southern. Anything over 16A single-phase or any embedded generation over 3.68kW needs G99 not G98 - that matters if you want a 22kW three-phase charger for a small-commercial unit near Whitfield, or if a solar-plus-battery install pushes past the G98 limit.
Conservation area?
Dover District Council maintains conservation areas across Castle Ward (covering the seafront and Castle approaches), Western Heights, and parts of Old St James. Kent Downs AONB covers St Margaret's-at-Cliffe and the White Cliffs beyond. External work - EV charger cables, solar arrays visible from the highway, meter box relocations on Listed elevations - can need consent. We package the application with photos, elevations, and the BS 7671 spec, and file it with DDC or Historic England as required.
Areas we cover
CT16 covers Dover town proper - Castle Ward, Tower Hamlets, Buckland, Maxton, Whitfield. CT17 is the western belt down Folkestone Road through River and out to Temple Ewell. The White Cliffs villages - St Margaret's-at-Cliffe, Kingsdown, Ringwould - straddle CT15 and CT16. We work all of it.
Castle Ward, Tower Hamlets, seafront. Georgian and early-Victorian terraces, TN-S supplies, salt corrosion on meter tails, conservation-area constraint on external work.
Western Dour valley. Mixed Victorian, inter-war and post-war housing. Straightforward rewires and consumer unit upgrades; typical EV charger territory.
White Cliffs village. AONB planning constraint on solar, high corrosion on external installs, older bungalow stock with rewire demand.
